Whether you’re planning a trip to Nashville this holiday season as a vacation, or you live locally and you want a holiday-themed stay-caytion, there is plenty to do.
Nashville is particularly magical during the holiday season, and most of the best activities and attractions during this time are family-friendly and will appeal to multiple generations.
The following are some of the best family-friendly holiday events to think about this season in Nashville.
A Country Christmas at the Gaylord Opryland Resort
The Gaylord Opryland Resort is a Nashville destination in and of itself. This massive, sprawling resort is particularly magical during the holidays. Even if you aren’t staying there, it’s worth visiting the resort to take in all it has to offer during this time of year.
For example, the hotel is home to more than three million holiday lights and shows like Rockin’ Christmas On Ice as well as Rudolph’s Holly Jolly Feast. There are carriage rides, a gingerbread decorating center, indoor tubing, and this year Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical takes the stage.
The signature attraction during the holidays at the Opryland is “Ice.” It’s a series of amazing ice sculptures—two million pounds of ice, in fact. You walk through the attraction, which is kept at 9 degrees Fahrenheit, and each piece is hand-carved by 40 artisans. This year’s theme is the beloved holiday movie, “A Christmas Story.”
Country Cove Christmas Tree Farm
If you live within driving distance, you might want to make your way to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and visit Country Cove. Country Cove is a family-owned and operated Christmas tree farm, as well as an ornament and wreath shop.
You can cut down your own tree and choose from White Pine or Leyland Cypress, or you can get a pre-cut tree from the farm.
You can have a wreath custom-made with fresh greens, and the onsite Christmas shop features beautiful ornaments as well as decorations for your tabletop.
The farm also has spiced apple cider and hot cocoa as well as a fire pit.
The Gift of Christmas Dinner Show
The Gift of Christmas Dinner Show with Trace Adkins & Friends is appropriate for all ages and includes country music star Trace Adkins singing some of the best holiday tunes. The show also takes place at the Gaylord Opryland in the Tennessee Ballroom, which is more than 18,000 square feet.
Along with the wonderful music, the dinner show includes southern-style fare.
Amy Grant & Vince Gill Christmas at the Ryman
Married couple and music superstars Amy Grant and Vince Gill are hosting their own Christmas show at the famed Ryman. The show runs throughout December and features special guest Rodney Crowell. This show has become one of Nashville’s favorite holiday traditions. Some of the songs you might be able to expect include “O Holy Night,” “Let it Snow,” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
This year is the first there will be matinee shows as well.
Music City Christmas with the Nashville Symphony
The Music City Christmas is an annual event that the Nashville Symphony hosts, and this year it will be extra special because country music singer and American Idol star Kellie Pickler is joining the event.
If you arrive at the event early, you can enjoy the American Caroling Company that will be performing traditional songs in Dickens attire, Christmas cookies, and specialty holiday drinks. There will also be an appearance from Santa.
The Nashville Symphony hosts other holiday special events such as Michael W. Smith: Christmas with the Nashville Symphony and Home Alone in Concert with the Nashville Symphony.
Holiday Events at the American Girl Doll Store
American Girl in Coolsprings Galleria hosts a variety of family fun holiday-themed activities throughout November and December. For example, there is a holiday decorating class where you can make a personal cake that you can then bring home.
There are several holiday tea events with service of food and drink and a build-your-own hot chocolate station.
There will be several breakfast with Santa events held throughout the holiday season as well. You can bring your kids to the store and meet Santa as well as enjoying breakfast treats. Reservations are required for many of these events at the American Girl store.
While you’re at Coolsprings Galleria, you can do some holiday shopping as well.
This is just a small sample of the many fantastic, family-friendly events and activities you can enjoy in Nashville and the surrounding area this year.
