Alternatives to Smoking

In the past, smoking was just the done thing. There were adverts on the TV, and almost all indoor spaces allowed you to light up.

But today, we’re more aware that smoking is not good for us.

As a result, many of us are seeking alternatives. Here are some of the best.

Why you shouldn’t smoke

Before we even begin to talk about what the alternatives to smoking are, we need to establish why smoking is bad.

Many of us will be taught not to smoke, but less of us will be aware of why this is. The main reason is the lungs. Having all of that tar and blackness on your lungs is going to make them less effective, and increase your chances of getting cancer.

As well as killing your lungs, you can also develop a smokers cough, which can cause you to cough all the time, and need more water than other people will do.

Vaping

The first alternative to smoking is to seek out the best vaping deals online.

Vaping is better than smoking for many reasons. The clearest one is that it doesn’t impact your lungs. When you vape, you’re not breathing in smoke, you’re just breathing in flavoured water, this isn’t going to turn your lungs black.

Also, because it’s water, you won’t need to worry about getting smokers cough. The only downside of vaping is that most of them will not contain nicotine. A lot of the time, people smoke because of nicotine addiction, this will not be fulfilled with vapes

Patches

If you need your nicotine, you can opt for patches instead. These are ideal because they provide you with nicotine, but don’t require you to stop what you’re doing to light up.

With a nicotine patch, you don’t need to put your life on hold to have a cigarette.

The only downside is that you will be given a constant flow of nicotine, which can make some people feel rather unwell. You’ll be getting nicotine throughout the day, rather than when you need it. It’s similar to being forced to smoke when you don’t want one.

Gum or Lozenges

If you would rather have a bit more control of when you have your nicotine, you can instead go for chewing gum or lozenges.

These can be taken whenever you want to. So when you want a cigarette, you can instead have a piece of gum or a lozenge. This gives you more control than a patch. But just like a patch, you don’t need to stop what you’re doing to have one.

The only downside is that the taste can take a bit of getting used to. The lozenges particularly have a texture that many people might not be too comfortable with.

Meditation

And finally, we have meditation.

In many cultures across the world, meditation is the way to deal with stress, not smoking.

This option has many benefits over patches or gum. Firstly, there’s no nicotine, so if your goal is to overcome nicotine addiction, meditating can be a great way to relieve the stress.

And unlike all of the previous options on the list, meditating will not cost you a single penny.

But the downside to meditating is of course that you will need to stop what you’re doing. Not too great if you’re working.

Conclusion

There isn’t a right or wrong way to give up smoking.

So long as you are no longer a smoker, you can be proud of yourself.

If you need a nicotine fix, try having gum, lozenges or patches. If you’re trying to overcome your nicotine addiction, try meditation. But if you just like the experience of smoking, give vaping a go.
